Cecil County Public Schools’ Interim Superintendent Henry Shaffer announced his retirement at Monday’s school board meeting in an effort to publicly support the ongoing superintendent search.

School board president Christine Sopa said that although she and the board had asked Shaffer to stay on for another year, after 40 years of working within the county’s school system, he was looking forward to time with his family in retirement.
